Following her successful performance at The Hague African Festival in Holland, Wiyaala and her management have been in talks with Amsterdam-based Hippo Records.
Sources close to the VGMA and Afrima awarding-winning artiste from the Upper West of Ghana say that a deal has been struck to make an album and tour Europe fully.
Rob Bierings, the boss of the independent label Hippo Records, is understood to have been very impressed by the young artiste’s approach to her work:
“We at Hippo believe that Wiyaala has the potential to become a world class act. She is a real talent and has a very professional attitude in everything she does. We want to help put her on the global map and think that she is one of the young emerging African artistes who can make it to the highest international levels.”
Wiyaala, who currently releases her songs under her own label Djimba World Records, said:
“I spent a lot of time with Hippo Records whilst in Amsterdam and they are really enthusiastic about supporting my ambitions. I am looking forward to working with a label who can help me get more international exposure.”
Hippo Records are the label behind a number of Ghanaian artistes who have had successful international careers including Atongo Zimba, the “No Beer in Heaven” hitmaker, who has performed on stages with Fela Kuti, Angelique Kidjo and Hugh Masekela amongst others.
Wiyaala is expected to return to return to Ghana this week from Morocco where she has been shooting a video for the hit single collaboration “This Is Who I Am” with the Afrobian artist Ahmed Soultan.
