Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has reportedly confirmed his intention to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to broadcast journalist Omanhene Kwabena Asante, who made the revelation on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Opoku’s decision has already been finalised.
He also disclosed that former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, a native of the Eastern Region, has expressed interest in leading the party into the next presidential race.
“This is confirmed. My own fellow Ahafo man, Eric Opoku, will contest. Julius Debrah from the Eastern Region will also contest,” Omanhene stated.
The development hints at an upcoming internal contest within the NDC as the party begins preparations for life after President John Dramani Mahama’s expected second term.
