Michael Essien hailed his side's Community Shield triumph over Manchester United and hopes it’s the first of many to come this season. The Ghanaian midfield ace was picked by new coach Carlo Ancelotti first on the right of a diamond midfield formation before deploying him in an anchor position after the withdrawal of John Mikel Obi. It was maybe the biggest vote of confidence from Ancelotti for Essien especially with talk that he could use the Ghanaian in a deal to bring Andrea Pirlo to the team.
