The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is asking the Electoral Commission (EC) to establish vote transfer centres on the various University campuses.
The union says the move will help students who are registered voters but will be unable to vote in their designated constituencies.
In a statement issued by NUGS on Wednesday, June 5, it said a significant number of students are currently studying in various institutions across the country far from their places of residence.
NUGS noted that many students are occupied with mid-semester exams, including research and project work, thus, the financial burden on these students to commute between their former voting centres and current campuses is a huge problem.
“We kindly request that the Electoral Commission takes the necessary steps to enable the limited transfer of votes for our members,” the statement further read.
“We believe that this will ensure that our members are not disenfranchised and can fully participate in the democratic process come December 2024,” NUGS added.
