The Rainforest Alliance an international non-profit organization working at the intersection of business, agriculture, and forests has awarded a local farmer in Wiawso Datano in the Western North Region a tricycle for his efforts in helping protect the forest in the high forest zone.
The farmer, Isaac Kwadjo Owusu, played an instrumental role when the organisation went to the township to propagate and build alliance to protect forests, improve the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, promote their human rights, and help them mitigate and adapt to the climate crisis.

Rainforest Alliance, together with 3 partners - Tropenbos Ghana, EcoCare Ghana and World Vision Ghana with funds from the European Union (EU) are implementing the project titled Landscapes and Environmental Agility across the Nation - LEAN which sets to address some major barriers in selected landscapes across the savannah, high forest and transitional ecological zones of Ghana.
The Director for Rainforest Alliance Mr. Kwame Osei who handed the keys to Mr. Owusu commended him on his good work saying the company will continue to liaise with the farmers in the high forest areas to achieve the broader aim of conserving biodiversity, improving livelihoods, increasing climate change resilience and reducing emissions from land use changes.

Mr. Kwame Osei urged all the farmers to continue working relentlessly and also promised that the organization will make this award scheme a yearly affair to cushion these farmers with the needed incentives to empower farmers achieve their target.
The LEAN project is to help to build collaborative, participatory, gender-sensitive and informed decision-making processes at the local level with all relevant stakeholders across multiple sectors.
