Three hundred ambulances under the One-constituency-One-Ambulance, (1C1A), programme will be delivered by the end of the year, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said.
The first batch of 48 has been delivered and the second batch is expected to be delivered next month.
Speaking at an Induction ceremony for 378 medical and dental doctors in honour of a pioneer of the medical profession, Dr. Emmanuel Evans Anfom, President Akufo-Addo charged the newly trained doctors to exhibit professionalism, ethical standards and take the healthcare of patients seriously.
He announced that government has cleared the GHS1.2 billion debt owed the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Dr Emmanuel Evans-Anfom who turns 100 is one of Ghana’s talented surgeons and one of the first doctors to practice in Ghana.
He has been credited for working in all regions and districts except the Volta region.
Dr. Evans-Anfom was given National honour in 2006 when he was awarded “Member of The Order of The Star of GHANA” by Former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Dr. Emmanuel Evans-Anfom, persevered against all odds, in challenging times, to achieve many firsts in the field of medicine, tertiary education, sports, and nation-building.
President Akufo-Addo said government is committed to improving access to essential and Quality Health Services through the provision of the necessary Health infrastructure, equipment and Logistics, including the deployment of appropriate technology as part of the drive to attaining Universal Health Coverage.
President Akufo-Addo said government is on course in delivering on the one ambulance per constituency promise.
President Akufo-Addo charged the doctors to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
The Board Chairman of the Medical and Dental Council, Professor P.K Nyame appealed to the President to exempt the Council from the 32 percent retention of dues paid by members.
