The much-anticipated bout between Joshua Clottey and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, which was schedule to take place on December 6 in Houston, has been postponed.
The postponement is due to Alvarez's unexpected knee injury.
The former WBA/WBC light middleweight champion suffered the injury during training over the weekend, according to Joshua Clottey.
Speaking to Asempa FM's Sports Nite Show, 36-year-old Clottey (38-4, 22 KOs), exclusively confirmed the postponement at his base in US.
“The new date is yet to be communicated to me but I am very sure that the Golden Boy [ the promoter] will shift to January or February if only Canelo manages to recover quickly but I am sure it will happen on January”, Clottey said..
“I don’t think the postponement will affect me in any way but it will rather give me an extra opportunity to prepare very well to defeat him”
Clottey recently fought in Australia in April, defeating former middleweight title challenger Anthony Mundine by unanimous decision.

Alvarez 24 (44-1-1 31 KOs), who last two weeks signed a new agreement to have his bouts televised on HBO pay-per-view, defeated Alfredo Angulo (technical knockout in March) and Erislandy Lara (split decision in July) before signing the contract to fight Clottey.
