A Lecturer at the University of Ghana is cautioning executives of the Convention People’s Party against expelling its 2008 presidential candidate.
Dr. Kpesah White told Joy News’ Bernard Saibu expelling Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom would be injurious to the party.
Dr. Nduom has been cited for indiscipline and several attempts to usurp the authority of the national executives.
Party Chairman Samia Nkrumah in an apparent anger warned, the 2008 flagbearer is likely to be dismissed after a meeting by the National Executive Council of the party.
She said the party would no longer tolerate the nonsense from Nduom.
Dr. Nduom has however maintained his innocence. His spokesperson Kofi Asamoah Siaw said the claims being made against his boss are not true and an insult to the constituency executives of the party.
The Convention People's Party Central Region Organiser described the national executives as confused and hypocritical.
Kwame Quayson alleged the national executives are deliberately holding on to the elections for their own personal reasons.
According to him some of the executives- Samia Nkrumah and Ivor Greenstreet had sympathy votes from the delegates and cannot take arbitrary decisions against party members.
“I am my own man,” he swore, insisting he was not paid to call for early elections by anybody.
In an interview with Joy News, Dr Kpesah stated it would not be the best of options to expel Dr. Nduom from CPP.
He said what makes a political party viable is its ability to manage the differences within the party, adding, the party would be better off pursuing other punitive measures other than expulsion.
He stated party politics is a game of numbers and any attempt to expel Dr. Nduom could be deleterious to the fortunes of the party.
He also conceded that the threat of expulsion may bring internal harmony within the party but its repercussion in terms of the party’s viability could be suicidal.
Dr. Kpesah also counseled Dr. Nduom to operate within the party’s rules and regulations and not to hold the party hostage.
