Expresso on Saturday 15th October 2011 supported the Senior Correctional Centre (formerly Bostal Institute) in Accra and encouraged the inmates to dream big and never to see themselves as hopeless because the future is brighter for them.
Inspiring them on Expresso's corporate tagline, "Dare to Dream", Mr. Emmanuel Afriyie Amoako, the Corporate Affairs manager urged the inmates who are between the ages of 13 and 18 years to "Dare to dream and submit themselves to the trainings and counseling at the Centre so that when they step out, they can make a difference."
The company, on Saturday officially handed-over a dormitory facility it re-roofed and a draughtsmanship training workshop it renovated to the authorities of the Correctional Centre.
The event formed part of the company’s CSR towards community development.
In addition, the company presented bags of rice, maize, beans, gari and other items such as exercise books and Expresso Tee Shirts to the inmates. The overall estimate of the renovation and donation amounted to GH¢8,000.
DSP Constance Dokumah, Counselor at the Centre said due to lack of infrastructure, the institute only admits boys for a duration ranging from six months to three years depending on the gravity of the offence committed.
DSP Dokumah further mentioned that at present, the Centre runs formal education for the Junior High School and National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) by preparing the students (inmates) for BECE and NVTI examinations.
DSP Dokumah also appealed for more support to the Centre and indicated that the current 60 pesewas feeding per day for an inmate was woefully inadequate. He was grateful to Religious organizations, corporate bodies and Non Governmental Organization, he noted, have been supporting the Centre.
