Agriculture Extension Officers at the Old Tafo Municipal assembly in the Ashanti region have undergone a day of capacity development to enhance their delivery in service and financial security.
The training not only sought to improve their livelihoods, but also broaden their understanding of Farmer-based organizations in order to address challenges that may occur during their operations and transactions with such firms.
"The training is intended to help AEAs to develop their own action plans and ensure farmers are provided with the needed technical support," Officer-in-charge of the training, Hayford Ishmael said.
Eighteen extension agents partook in the fully funded Canadian government initiative and were trained in areas such as problem-solving, marketing, internal and external cooperatives, among others.
Mr Ishmael charged the authorities at the Extension Office to ensure farmers are adequately equipped in order to successfully apply the knowledge acquired to help their businesses thrive.
He also advised them to encourage farmers to strengthen their farmer-based organizations for a strong voice and effective policy delivery service.
He indicated that the training forms part of many plans in store that aim at making urban farming attractive and lucrative.
According to him, several training sections are underway to empower extension agents to deliver their best.
