The Confederation of African Football has absorbed the Ghana Football Association of any blame over Asante Kotoko’s registration of defender, Godfred Yeboah to play in the Confederation Cup.
The Libyan Football Federation lodged a protest with the sport governing body over the eligibility of the defender to play in the competition following Al Ittihad’s 4-3 elimination from the pre-group stage of the competition last month.
The sport body also cleared Asante Kotoko of any wrong doing over the player’s registration.
A CAF statement released on Monday read: “That the protest was not lodged in conformity to the provisions of article 20 para a, this protest is rejected in law and cannot be examined by the committee in accordance to the article mentioned here-above.”
“That there was not any deliberate intention of fraud by the Ghana Football Association or the club, Kotoko,” the statement said.
Despite clearing both the FA and Asante Kotoko, CAF maintained that the player would not be eligible to play any other part in the competition until the committee decides on his eligibility next month.
“To postpone the participation of the player Godfred Yeboah at the forthcoming group matches of the Confederation Cup until the next plenary session of the organising committee for inter-clubs competition scheduled on 12th September 2008 during which the committee will decide upon the qualification of the said player.”
