A former driver of a Member of Parliament who posed as a Protocol Officer of the august House has been arraigned before a Circuit Court in Accra for allegedly defrauding a woman of millions of cedis, in addition to foreign currencies.Kwaku Adjei Yeboah, alias Aikins, is accused of taking 5 million cedis, $2,500 and three Ghanaian passports from Nana Akua, the complainant, promising to assist her to travel to the United States of America to join her husband.According to the facts presented to the court, in February this year the accused who is currently a driver at Lapaz, a suburb of Accra introduced himself to the complainant as a Protocol Officer at Parliament House.The accused said he could use his good office as a proto to assist the complainant to travel to the United States. With her eagerness to join her husband in the U.S., the complainant was easily convinced.The accused (Kwaku Adjei Yeboah) allegedly demanded $6,000 from the complainant to be used in processing a United States visa and buying a plane ticket.Nana Akua according to the facts could not afford all the money being demanded, so she parted with $2,500 and later added 5 million cedis and her Ghanaian passport.The court heard that after taking the various sums of money, the accused also collected the passports of the complainants' son and that of her brother all with the intention of assisting them travel to America.But he failed to honour his promise and rather went into hiding, the court was told.The court heard that several visits by the complainant to Parliament House in search of the accused yielded no results. During one of her visits, she learnt that the accused person was a former driver to a Member of Parliament and not a protocol officer as he made her to believe.On the 18th April this year, the complainant saw the accused at Lapaz and caused his arrest and handed him over to the police.At the court Yeboah pleaded not guilty and the presiding judge granted him bail of 60 million cedis with a surety to be justified.Culled from Public Agenda
