A family at Alajo in Accra was thrown into a state of shock and mourning on Sunday when two siblings died in rapid succession in what many in the neighborhood say is shrouded in mystery.Ernest Marfo, 13, and Esther Marfo, 10, both pupils of Kyehe Roman Catholic Basic School died shortly after complaining of sudden illness. Before the tragic deaths, the family was grappling with the problem of their elder brother, Stanley Marfo who was comatose at Ridge Hospital.“Ernest complained of stomach ache in the afternoon of Sunday and was taken to the Ridge Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival,” their mother, Leticia Adu said. She said while at the hospital, Esther who was in the company of family members who went to the hospital with Ernest suddenly complained of discomfort, weakness and dizziness.Worried about the situation, the family rushed her to a prayer camp for prayers after which she was taken home but died later in the day.The message about Esther’s death reached the rest of the family at the Ridge Hospital while they were preparing to convey Ernest’s body to Korle Bu Hospital mortuary, she said.Madam Adu disclosed the possibility of food poisoning as the cause of the deaths saying that they (family members) including her three year old child ate rice for lunch. The hospital authorities have not established the cause of Ernest’s death and the Kotobabi Police said the family had only reported the death of Esther which occurred at home.Source: The Ghanaian Times
