A circuit court at Asamankese on Thursday sentenced Yaw Amponsah Benoah, a farmer at Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District to a fine of eight million cedis (GH800) for offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.Benoah, who was convicted on his own plea, would go to prison for nine months in hard labour in default.Prosecuting, Police Inspector F A Cobbinah, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that on August 9, at about 15:45 hours at Asuom, the convict insulted one Sampson Ampofo calling him "foolish, stupid and senseless man" with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. He said both the complainant, Ampofo and the convict were brothers and farmers and lived at Asuom but had not been on speaking terms for sometime now due to a chieftaincy dispute. He said on that day while Ampofo was conversing with some witnesses in the case, Benoah came to confront him and levelled some accusations against him.Benoah rained insults on Ampofo accusing him of misleading his brother Amankrado and made him to spend money at Okyehene's palace at Kyebi. The complainant did not utter a word but reported the case to the police and Benoah was arrested.Source: GNA
