A 27-year-old farmer has been sentenced to nine months' imprisonment in hard labour by a Circuit Court in Juaso, Ashanti, for stealing palm fruits valued at GH¢12 (120,000 cedis).
Yaw Owusu pleaded guilty to stealing and was convicted on his own plea.
Police Chief Inspector Kippo Iddrisu Mahama told the court, presided over by Mr Jacob Boon, that for sometime, the owner of the palm plantation had been experiencing theft on the farm and thus engaged some men to keep watch over the farm.
The court heard that on October 11, while one of the men was patrolling the farm, he spotted Owusu carrying a sack full of palm fruits.
He said Owusu initially claimed he harvested the palm fruits on the request of the farm owner but later admitted stealing them.
