Peter Kwasi Opoku, a 70-year-old farmer has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢1,000 by the Juaso circuit court for allegedly having sex with a mentally retarded girl at Konongo in the Asante-Akim North municipality.
Opoku, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, would re-appear on April 4.
Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Damanka told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that Opoku was the step-father of the victim’s mother and they both lived in the same vicinity at Konongo.
He said on February 17 the victim who is 17 years and mentally retarded went to the room of Opoku to watch a movie on television.
Chief Inspector Damanka said Opoku had sex with the victim after which he drove her out of the room.
The next day the victim informed her mother who reported the case to the police leading to the arrest of Opoku.
