A 31-year-old farmer has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court, for stealing foodstuff at Sepaase in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
Isaac Atimbisa was said to have stolen six bunches of plantain and two sacks of cassava worth GHc 350.00, from a farm in the community and was about to transport them to sell.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the court presided by Mrs Philomina Asiedu.
Police Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisa prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, Joseph Amankwah, a mason resided at Sepaase, while the convict resided at Atwima Koforidua.
He said, on October 12, this year, at about 1:40 pm, the complainant spotted Atimbisa carrying the six bunches of plantain and two sacks of cassava valued at 350 cedis by the roadside at Sepaase.
The Prosecution said, the complainant became suspicious and alerted some neighbours to join him to question the convict about how he got the foodstuffs.
Inspector Ayimbisa said the convict admitted stealing and was, therefore, handed over to the Sepaase Police and in a caution statement, he admitted and led the police to the complainant’s farm.
He was, therefore, charged after investigations and brought before the court.
