The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced Kofi Duku, a 27-year-old farmer, to 18 months imprisonment for setting ablaze the house of Ayambile Grushie at Aguaso near Agogo in the Asante Akim North District.
Duku, who pleaded guilty to the count of causing unlawful damage, said his action was in retaliation to insults hurled at him by the complainant's daughter.
Defective Inspector Mike Fritz Bekoe told the court presided over by Mr. Jacob Boon that both the accused and complainant were farmers and lived at Aguaso near Agogo.
Prosecution said on December 1, 2007 around 1900 hours, the accused was prevented from assaulting the complainant in his house.
Inspector Bekoe said the accused in the night set the house of the complainant ablaze, destroying all his personal effects valued at GH¢1,000 including GH¢200 cash.
Prosecution said Duke went into hiding after committing the crime but the police arrested him the next day.
