A circuit court at Asamankese in the Eastern Region sentenced Raphael Lartey Agbo, a 34-year-old farmer, who inflicted cutlass wounds on two of his brothers, to six years in prison in hard labour.
The accused pleaded guilty to causing unlawful harm to Samuel Tetteh Agbo, 24, and Gabriel Agbo, a 14-year-old junior high school student.
Police Chief Inspector Joseph Idan, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that the three brothers and their mother lived at Tweapease near Asuom in the Kwaebibrem District.
According to the prosecutor, the mother of the three has an oil palm farm at Akawani, which was being taken care of by the convict.
Chief Inspector Idan said for some inexplicable reasons the convict refused to work on the farm for two months despite repeated request by the mother.According to prosecution, the mother asked the two brothers to harvest the fruits since their brother had refused to do that.
Chief Inspector Idan said on January 27 this year, while the two brothers were working on their mother’s farm, the accused attacked them with a cutlass accusing them of taking over his work.
Prosecution said the accused inflicted severe cutlass wounds on them, especially Gabriel, who sustained wounds on the head and the right arm.
The prosecutor said after the incident, the accused surrended himself to the assembly member for Akawani who escorted him to the police station at Asuom.
Prosecution said Gabriel spent weeks in hospital and when he was discharged the right hand could not function again.Source: GNA
