Afagbedzi Hassey, 45, who sneaked into the farm of a colleague farmer and stole his mobile phone, was last Wednesday jailed two years in hard labour by a Dabala Magistrate’s Court.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
His alleged accomplice, Akuafo MacCarthy, 40, a shoemaker had his plea of guilty changed by the court to not guilty and remanded in police custody to be brought before the court again on March 9, this year.
Mr Emmanuel Atsyor, Police Sergeant at Sogakope, told the court presided over by Mr Eric Fiamordzi that the complainant, a Storekeeper of a public school at Ada, hailed from Agbeve in the South-Tongu District, where the accused persons also lived.
He said on February 28 this year, the complainant, who visited home, accompanied his wife to the farm and hanged his shirt containing his mobile phone on a tree to enable him to work.
Mr Atsyor said Hassey sneaked through the bush to the shirt and removed the phone.
He said the complainant spotted him and chased him but he escaped.
Mr Atsyor said Hassey was later arrested and he admitted the offence, adding that he had given the phone to MacCarthy to sell.
MacCarthy admitted receiving the phone but said he returned it to Hassey soon after he confided in him that it was stolen.
