A 37-year-old farmer at Dwendwenase in the Asante-Akim South District, Kwabena John, has been ordered by the Juaso Circuit Court to be held in prison custody for attempting to commit suicide. He could not give any reason for his failed action and pleaded guilty. John would re-appear on Friday, February 18. Police Inspector Emmanuel Ofori told the court that the accused on February 11 went to the farm with his friend Kofi Darko and returned home at about 1600 hours. At midnight that same day, John picked up a machete and started slashing his throat. The prosecution said after having cut to a point, he felt the pain, threw away the machete and ran to the house of Darko for help. Darko together with some other neighbours took him to the Juaso District Hospital. The incident was reported to the Juaso Police who arrested him after he had been treated and discharged.
