A 38-year-old farmer who prevented the arrest of a man suspected to be selling Indian hemp but was found to be possessing some quantities of the leaves has been remanded by the Juaso Circuit Court.
Kwaku Ako pleaded guilty to two counts of resisting arrest and possessing narcotic drugs and will re-appear on December 17.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Francis Baah told the court that on November 29 a police constable who was on his way home from work saw a man (now at large) selling some dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.
He snatched the stuff from him and arrested him.
While escorting the suspect to the station, the accused emerged and told the constable that he had engaged the suspect to sell the stuff on his behalf so he should release the suspect.
He engaged the constable in a tussle and this enabled the suspect to flee.
With the assistance of a colleague policeman who was passing by, the constable attempted to arrest the accused but he resisted arrest and fled.
The policemen called for reinforcement from the Divisional Command and they arrested accused after a two-hour hunt.
Not only were some quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp found in his room but also two wrappers were retrieved from his pocket at the charge office.
