Madam Fathia Nkrumah, wife of Ghana's founding president has been laid to rest beside her husband at the Nkrumah Mausoleum here in Accra.
This follows a request to government by Madam Fathia, who died in Cairo on May 31 after a short illness.
On Tuesday morning a burial service was held in her honor at the forecourt of the State House. The ceremony was attended by President Kufuor as well as the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama and ministers of state.
Also present at the service was former UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, ex-president J.J Rawlings, Professor Atta-Mills and representatives of the various political parties.
Her son, Gamel Nkrumah said his mother became fully integrated into Ghanaian society and adopted the country's culture as her own.
In a speech read on behalf of the government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nana Akuffo-Addo said the marriage between Madam Fathia and Dr Kwame Nkrumah signified the strong bond between Ghana and Egypt and Ghana's commitment to the unification of Africa.
