The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has released a list of hand sanitiser brands it has approved for public use.
The list contains about 327 brands of hand sanitisers all with the recommended 70% alcohol content or more.
This comes after some individuals had taken to the market to sell fake hand sanitisers or sold hand creams disguised as hand sanitisers.
On April 7, a director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti region, was arrested for allegedly producing and selling fake hand sanitisers.
In March, a man, Opoku Ababio and his wife Dorothy Opoku along with three other accomplices, were also arrested in Techiman, for making and selling fake hand sanitisers among other things unapproved by the FDA.
In a release, the FDA said the recent increase in fake hand sanitisers production amid the coronavirus pandemic inspired them to make these checks as fast as they could.
"The Food and Drugs Authority fast-tracked the registration of hand sanitisers to ensure availability of quality, safe and effective hand sanitiser on the market to protect the public against the spread of Covid-19."
"It is important to note that, it is a criminal offence to offer for sale unregistered or substandard hand sanitisers to consumers."
