Investigations by the Food and Drugs Board have revealed a good number of food producers are compromising safety standards.Apart from unhygienic facilities, the FDB also found that a higher number of staff have no knowledge about personal hygiene and food safety practices. The FDB fears this could pose a health hazard to consumers if nothing is done about it.Officials say they are now training food and sachet water producers in the Greater Accra region and some other regions. The Deputy Chief Executive of the FDB, Mr John Odame Darkwa said many of the food production facilities vetted didn’t just lack quality control systems, they also did not keep any records at all on quality management systems. He warned the situation, if not addressed, will “increase the public health burden and government health bill needlessly.”Source: Joy News/Ghana
