World’s football governing body FIFA has invited Ghana’s Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah over to Zurich, Switzerland to chart a new path for Ghana football.

The meeting which will be held on Thursday June 28, 2018, will also have Mr Kweku Eyiah Abaku and Mr Alex Asante both of whom are members of the GFA all attending.

A letter signed by the Director, Member Associations Africa and Carribean, Veron Mosengo-Omba and intercepted by Myjoyonline.com, says Thursday’s meeting will be a continuation of an earlier meeting held between officials of FIFA and Ghana.

“Mr Kweku Eyiah Abaku and Mr Alex Asante will represent the Ghana Football Association at the meeting. Please note that Mr Asante will also meet with members of the FIFA administration so that they can facilitate participation of the Ghana U-20 Women’s national team at the FIFA-U20 Women’s World Cup France 2018 [5-24 August 2018]. Additionally, the Ghana elite league clubs will be represented by Mr Samuel Brew Butler and Mr Papa Nduom at the meeting,” the letter said.

The content of the letter is in contrast to the suggestion by Ghana’s Deputy Attorney General Godfred Dame that FIFA has vouched not to have anything to do with the erstwhile Kwesi Nyantakyi led Football Association.

Mr Dame on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme stated FIFA was in full support of government’s action against the Nyantakyo led FA has refused to work with it.

“It is quite clear from the statement jointly signed by FIFA and the government of delegation, a member of which I was, that FIFA does not even recognize the current FA administration…” he said.

“It is important to note that the invitation for the meeting was extended by FIFA. Initially, they had indicated they wanted to meet with the members of the FA first then meet with the government. On arrival in Ghana they decided that was a wrong idea. They abandoned the idea because as far as they are concerned they do not want to legitimize the operations of this FA administration,” he added.

A former GFA spokesperson Randy Abbey who was on the show, however disagreed with the position taken by the Deputy Attorney General.

He stated FIFA will never proceed without members of the FA taking part in the transition period to fix Ghana’s football which has been riddled with allegations of bribery and corruption.

FIFA’s letter to Ghana’s Sports Minister suggests current members of the FA who are deemed to be clean are, together with government officials, assisting the world’s football governing body to bring Ghana football back to its glory days.

An undercover investigation by Anas Aremeyaw Anas on Ghana football has resulted in a 90-day handed to the president of the FA after he was seen taking money and demanding an extra $11 million from a person he thought was a businessman but who was actually an undercover journalist.

Referees were also captured taking bribes to influence the outcomes of games.

FIFA is hoping Thursday’s meeting with government officials as well as with Ghana's FA will be “positive and lead to progressive developments from the current situation.”
