Fifty-eight abuse and protection cases were successfully handled by the Adaklu district Directorate of the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) from January to December 2025.
Out of the number, 38 involved children.
Mrs Susan Akortia, Adaklu District Director of Department of Social Welfare disclosed this in her report on the activities of the Department in 2025 at a meeting of the Adaklu District Child Protection Committee at Adaklu Waya.
She noted that all the cases were successfully handled, adding that 80 follow-up visits were conducted by officials of the Department to ensure that the parties complied with the settlement agreements.
Mrs Akortia continued that 48 Citizens Advice Bureau Cases were also recorded by the Department during the year.
She noted that 40 stakeholders were given training on Integrated Social Services Programme (Referral Pathways and Guidelines) in dealing with suspected abuse cases.
The Director explained that 115 People with Disabilities benefitted from various skills training programme in the district and that the activities of 19 of them were monitored to ensure effective utilization of the fund.
On the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), she said GHS675,796 was expended on beneficiaries of the Programme during the six LEAP payment cycles.
The Director noted that the National Health Insurance cards of 560 PWDs were renewed and 4,955 other indigents were registered
Mrs. Akortia urged committee members to protect children from all forms of abuse in the district.
She stated that all abuse cases should be thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators should face the law.
She reminded them that it was an offence to handle child abuse cases at the community level.
