A ravaging fire on Wednesday has ravaged nine shops at the Kumasi Central market, destroying a number of textile prints and other wares.

The fire started around midnight, reports Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor.

Security men guarding the central market said they saw the fire start at one of the shops after a brief interruption in power supply.

The fire destroyed textiles, sewing machine and clothes, Erastus said.

The fire would have spread to more shops, but the timely intervention by personnel from the Menhyia Fire Division stopped the late night fire.

Assistant Station Officer, John Danquah, said his department is yet to ascertain the cost of the destruction.

“The cause of fire too cannot be established,” he told Erastus.

He said, however, that the Menhyia Fire Division is still collecting information to establish the cause and cost of the inferno.
