Residents of Agbogbloshie near the Old Fadama market in the central business district of Accra, have lost money and several properties in a fire outbreak in the area.
Joy News understands that the fire occurred at around 9pm on Sunday, November 24.
The fire consumed many wooden structures, including the homes of several residents, particularly in the Bola Top Down settlement.
One of the victims, Mohammed Baba Ami, claimed that he had lost about GHC800,000 in the blaze.
“This is not the first time there has been a fire outbreak here, but it has never affected us like this one. The money I have lost is almost GHC800,000, and in the other store, we couldn’t save anything, so everything has burnt,” he said.
Mohammed explained that he owns a Mobile Money business and also keeps susu [Savings] for people in the neighbourhood.
According to the residents, they were unable to call the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for help in time. They also noted that the fire spread quickly, destroying every wooden structures in its path.
This incident follows a recent fire outbreak at Circle in Accra, where the GNFS was able to respond and contain the fire.

Meanwhile, the GNFS has yet to initiate an investigation into the incident.
