Fire has caused extensive damage to portions of presidential lounge in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa.
Eye witnesses say their attention was drawn to the fire which started as early as 7:30 Saturday morning. It took personnel of the Fire Service 45 minutes to finally bring it under control.
The presidential lounge is an official accommodation used to host the president and his entourage; and it is located in each of the ten regions.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Mahmud Khalid, told Joy News that even though the cause of the fire has not been established, it is believed it was due to an electrical fault.
There was no casualty recorded.
“People haven’t reported for work yet when the thing started,” he told Joy News Araba Koomson.
The fire gutted mainly the main hall destroying items like furniture, television, fans, air conditioners and other electrical appliances.
The Firemen who went to the scene noted that the fire might have been caused by an overheated ceiling fan which fell on a carpet and caught fire.
