A fire outbreak in the Control Room of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) at Tema, Thursday, has caused a major power disruption in Tema.
The fire destroyed some essential equipment in the control room affecting power distribution, the Head of Communications at GRIDCo, Albert Quainoo confirmed to Joy News.
He termed the problem as a “localized” one that has affected the Tema Metropolis, Ashaiman and Golf City.
The power transmission company says it has shut down the power distribution system in Tema as its engineers work round the clock to fix the problem.
“We have restored power to virtually half of the customers and our technicians and engineers are on the field working to restore power to the others,” he stated.
As a result of the power disruption, parts of Tema have been connected to the systems in Accra, overburdening the systems and causing shortfalls and low current in some instance, he explained.
The company has apologized for the inconvenience the outage has caused has assured customers that power will be restored to all affected areas by 2:00 pm.
