Ghanaian supporters at Mozinba residence in Pretoria South Africa were petrified Tuesday morning following a fire incident at their residence.
According to Joy FM’s correspondent Dela Attiase, the fire was sparked by an overflowing bath water which entered a room full of electrical cables and gas cylinders.
“The drain at the bath room was choked somewhere yester night; people over here should not have been using the bathhouse; in the course of the night people used the bath house and it overflowed and went through to where the cables and cylinder was and that, he said, caused the fire”, he narrated.
There has however been no offial confirmation.
The fire, Attiase confirmed, started around 7:00 am, adding, but for the intervention of a man who rushed in to quench the fire with an extinguisher, the incident could have been disastrous.
Some 500 government sponsored supporters are living in the Mozinba residence.
Meanwhile, the government is denying media reports that the president has ordered the immediate return of the fans.
A Daily Guide report on Tuesday suggested that the president is unimpressed with the level of organization and has asked for their immediate return.
John Jinapor, Aide to Vice President John Mahama told Joy News the report is false.
According to him, the fans were expected to return after the Black Stars’ opening group games, saying that should not be misconstrued as a directive for their return.
