Barring any hitches the first of three phases of the digital migration process will be completed by October 2015, deputy Minister of Communication Ato Sarpong has said.

This means residents in the Greater Accra, Ashanti Regions will by November 1, have full access to digital broadcasting.

The second phase which will be completed in December will also have the Volta Region, Upper East and West as well as the Northern Regions all hooked to digital broadcasting.

The final phase will have residents in the Brong Ahafo, Eastern and Western Regions all migrated to the digital platform to end the process.

The International Telecommunication Union, ITU, set June 17 as deadline for all countries to complete migrating from analogue to digital broadcasting.

Ghana's migration process stalled for months after the Star Times company sued government for abrogating a contract to supply and install the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) network platform for Ghana.

The court later ruled in favour of government paving the way for the process to continue.

Ato Sarpong told Journalists in Accra Wednesday, the country will be putting the physical structures in place to make the digital transmission possible.

He said 15 companies sent in bids to undertake the migration process out of which K-NET, a local company won.

Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah reported the Deputy Minister as saying that K-NET has the competence and the requisite infrastructure to execute the project having already undertaken similar projects in the country.

He said the analogue system will run alongside the digital infrastructure for a while before it will be completely phased out.

Digital migration is only an improvement in broadcast technology. Some few television stations in the country, including Multi TV are on the digital platform.
