The First Sky Group has so far expended 20 million on providing free dialysis treatment to patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The group, in 2017, moved to support the worthy cause by paying off all the medical bills of all patients at the facility and instituted free dialysis for patients who frequent the Unit.

In his address at the 19th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service organised by his outfit, the Founder and Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group, Dr. Eric Seddy Kutortse said “but for our intervention, many beneficiaries would have lost their lives or become incapacitated by the challenges with their kidney dysfunction if not for the company’s intervention.”

Dr. Kutortse has therefore made a passionate appeal to government to consider making at least two sessions of dialysis treatment cost, a part of the medical services covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme.

He believes this will improve the quality of life and work productivity in the country.

“We are in the interim appealing to the government to consider making at least two sessions of dialysis, a part of the medical services covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme”, he said.

The First Sky boss said his outfit is sponsoring the establishment and operationalisation of a modern Kidney Transplant Centre in Ghana, believed to be first of its kind in West Africa, to serve patients within the country and the sub-region.

New subsidiary

Meanwhile, the group has birthed a new subsidiary called the First Sky Energies Limited – a new frontier company established to provide renewable energy services. This puts the total number of subsidiaries to seven comprising; First Sky Construction, First Sky Commodities, Volta Serene Hotel - Ho, Serence Insurance, Frerol Rural Bank, First Sky Bitumen Processing Ltd. and newly established First Sky Energies Limited.

“This will provide us yet another huge platform to contribute our quota to the development of our nation through prompt payment of taxes, creation of new jobs that offer avenues for skills development and improve living standards.” Dr. Kutortse said.

Covid-19 impact

According to the First Sky Group, even though it felt the pinch of the Covid-19 pandemic, it ensured that its staff strength was not affected by any layoffs.

Dr. Kutortse said neither did the company loss a member of staff nor was there a pay cut in the wages or salaries of staff.

“Rather, our numerical strength kept increasing with a group staff strength currently standing at 5,300 comprising permanent, casual, direct and indirect employees”, he  added.

Business environment

The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah who represented President Akufo-Add commended the First Sky Group for its contribution to national development and assured that his administration will continue to provide enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams, who also graced the occasion, admonished congregants to develop a lifestyle of gratitude and appreciation to God for his unending mercy towards humanity.

The 19th edition of the First Sky Group Anniversary Thanksgiving Service saw the attendance of the Vice President of Liberria, Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor, Senior members of the Clergy, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Staff of First Sky Group and other stakeholders.
