A driver and four others have been arrested for allegedly diverting 41 tonnes of iron rods belonging to K. Ofori Enterprise. They are Ali Zakari, 24; the driver, Thomas Doe; 36, Amina Muntari; 45, Abraham Sodzi; 35, and Suleiman Seidu; 39. The driver, according to the police, was arrested at Ashaiman upon a tip-off on June 23 which led to the arrest of the other suspects. Briefing the media, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Emmanuel Frank Adufati, said the police received a complaint on June 2 from Mr. Emmanuel Appiah of K. Ofori Enterprise, on the Spintex Road that on May 25, the company loaded an articulated truck (registration number AS 9438 E) driven by Zakari con-signed with iron rods to BeRock Ventures in Kumasi, but it did not reach its destination. He said the police, therefore, sent messages to all police stations which led to the arrest of the driver, Zakari and subsequent arrest of Doe at Tema Community 3, the alleged transporter Amina Muntari at Ashongman, and Seidu; a scrap dealer at Kumasi. According to Mr. Adufati, police investigations had revealed that the goods were diverted to Taifa from where some were sold in Accra and Kumasi, with 24 tonnes yet to be recovered. Supt. Adufati said so far, the police had recovered five tonnes out of the eleven tonnes sold in Accra and 12 tonnes out of the 30 sent to Kumasi, adding that 24 more tones are yet to be recovered.
