The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has taken decisive action against five of its personnel, interdicting them from duty immediately for various acts of misconduct involving the unauthorised use of the police uniform on social media platforms.
The disciplinary measure was announced in a press release dated December 16, 2025, and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah on behalf of the Director-General of Public Affairs.
The interdicted officers, whose ranks range from sergeant to constable, have been identified as:
- No. 45545 G/Sgt. Samuel Agbemanyale
- No. 50300 G/Cpl. Isaac Mpere
- No. 51816 G/Cpl. Samuel Agbo
- No. 56563 G/Cpl. Charles Oduro
- No. 14494 PW/Const. Elizabeth Dicka Korkor
Interdiction in the police service means the officer is temporarily relieved of their constabulary duties but remains a member of the service and is subject to disciplinary regulations.
During the period of interdiction, an officer usually receives a portion of their salary, often half.
The police service stated that the officers have been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for further investigation and necessary disciplinary action.
The PPSB is the dedicated unit responsible for monitoring compliance with professional standards, investigating complaints from the public against officers, and handling matters of police corruption and misconduct.
Reinforcing Professional Standards
While the press release did not specify the exact nature of the "acts of misconduct", the reference to the unauthorised use of the police uniform on social media suggests a breach of the service's internal guidelines regarding the public representation of the institution.
The Ghana Police Service is actively working to enforce professionalism and accountability across its ranks.
This move underscores the Inspector General of Police's commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that the conduct of officers, even on personal social media platforms, does not compromise the integrity and public image of the Ghana Police Service.
The service aims to achieve goals such as the promotion of accountability and deepening the governance culture of the Service.
