The Central Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Nana Yaw Fayah, has appealed to the Minister of Transport to weed out driving license contractors operating at the Driving and Vehicle Licensing and Authority (DVLA). He said the continued existence of these contractors was not in the interest of the nation. Nana Fayah told the GNA in an interview that these contractors used back doors to secure license for people who learnt driving at car washing bases and or attended driving schools for between two and four weeks. He expressed concern about the rampant erection of illegal speed ramps on highways by some people to avoid accidents and appealed to chiefs and other opinion leaders wishing to mount ramps for one reason or another to seek approval from the Ghana Highway Authority. Nana Fayah appealed to Ghana Highways Authorities to respond quickly to the demand of the people to erect ramps to stop them from taking the law into their hands to mount the ramps. Mr George Obeng, a former Vice Chairman of Swedru/Accra branch of the Ghana Private Transport Union, suggested to the DVLA and Ministry of Transport to permit Drivers Union executives to guarantee drivers' mates wishing to acquire license to minimize some of the difficulties in acquisition of license.
