A severe rainstorm that hit Fomena in the Adansi North district and its surrounding communities on Wednesday destroyed 70 houses and displaced 108 people.
The other affected communities include Kusa, Asokwa Brofoyedru, and Fumso Nyamebekyere.
Mr Gabriel Kwaku Nimo, Head of Manpower Mobilization of the Ashanti Regional Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Wednesday.
Mr Nimo was accompanied by Nana Atakora Kodua, Head of Operations and Mr Kwaw Freiku, District Coordinator to inspect the affected communities to know the extent of damage.
Nana Kodua expressed his condolences to the affected people and assured them that his organization and other stakeholders would assist them with relief items.
He advised the people of Fumso Nyamebekyere, whose six-classroom block was severely affected, to mobilize resources to rehabilitate the school to enable the children to attend classes.
The Head of Operations urged them to plant more trees to serve as wind brakes to check such disasters in future.
