Ghana is the only country in sub-saharan Africa to have attained the hunger reduction target of the Millenium Development Goals even before the 2015 target, says two United Nations Food Agencies.
The World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture organization have however expressed grave concern that this feat might be eroded in the face of global financial crisis, food price increases and rising inflation.
The agencies have thus initiated a project to assist 500 Ghanaians in the Northern Region as part of measures to achieve food security in the country.
However, government says it has put in adequate measures to fight the threat of poverty in the country.
Dr. Nora Gyile, Chief Director at the Ministry of Agriculture told Joy News the country has enough buffers to protect the country from extreme poverty.
