Mr Ken Peprah Dwomoh-Mensah, Senior Resource Person with the Ghana Traditional Caterers Association, has called on street food vendors to adopt and practice food safety in their operations to protect the public from communicable diseases.He said it was only when food and other vegetables were well prepared and preserved that the safety of consumers could be guaranteed.Mr Dwomoh-Mensah said this at the closing of a week-long food and drinkable product hygiene training in Winneba for street food sellers and drinking bar operators in Effutu municipality.The programme was aimed at sensitising the participants on the need to periodically keep their environment clean.
He said any person who sells unfit foods to the public committed an offence liable to conviction to a fine of not exceeding GH¢500.00 or to imprisonment exceeding two years or both.
Hajia Saworato Yakubu, National Organiser of the Association, advised participants to operate in accordance with the laws and rules governing their business.
She urged them to use the knowledge and skills they have acquired during the programme to help promote their work.Certificate of participation were given to the participants.Source: GNA
