Spiritual Leader of Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council has counseled against calls on President Mahama to take a stand against homosexuality.
Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson questioned what the essence of the call would be if the president serves his term and another person assumes office. For instance, former President Atta Mills publicly took a stand against the practice but that has not been binding on the sitting president.
“There is no need for the president to declare his stand on gay and lesbianism,” he affirmed.
The president should rather be allowed to focus on developing the nation and other things he is mandated by the constitution, he said when the National Chief Imam Dr. Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu and his council paid a reciprocal courtesy call on him Thursday.

Nakoa Nazareth was however emphatic that homosexuality is an abnormal act which God frowns upon. Instead of channeling the campaign against it through the presidency, religious institutions should rather engage their members through prayers and teachings, he advised.
People should be taught in the mosques and churches about God’s position on the act so that they don’t fall and practice the ignoble lifestyle lest be judged and condemned, he stated.
“Judgement day will definitely come with furnace for those who went against God’s will. Let’s leave the president alone to do what he is doing because he respects the constitution, but the world of God must go where God’s people are,” he opined.

Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, speaking through an interpreter, said the act is “unacceptable”.
He said it is obvious God detests homosexuality because he punished those who engaged in it in the past. This was in apparent reference to the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah that was destroyed largely because of the activities of gays and lesbians.
“Punishment befell persons who practised homosexuality and their country was turned upside down. They all perished. This should serve as a lesson to all that same await us if we don’t do the right thing,” the Chief Imam cautioned.
“We will all be guilty if we don’t tell people the truth to do what is right in the sight of God. Otherwise we will all be punished at the judgement day.”

The relationship between the two religious groups have been mutually beneficial, the two leaders touted. Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu congratulated Nakoa Nazareth for doing well do bring God’s children together in Ghana at a time when Muslims and Christians are fighting each other in other countries.
The meeting afforded the two religious groups the opportunity to foster the existing unity between them for national development.
At the meeting, the two leaders implored all religious leaders to use their platforms to promote among others peace and peaceful coexistence; and tackle issue of corruption and promote the fear of God.
