Police in Akuse in the Eastern Region have arrested four people suspected to be part of marauding youth who attacked the police station Monday.
The angry youth pelted police with stones and smashed the windscreens of vehicles around the police station demanding the release of a suspect who they accused of attempting to kill a mechanic for rituals.
The DCE for Yilo Krobo, Andrews Soda, was not spared the wrath of the angry youth. He was reportedly beaten up for daring to plead on behalf of the suspect.
Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the angry youth, with one of them said to have sustained minor injuries.
Akuse Police Commander, DSP Douglas Nkrumah confirmed the arrests and the extent of destruction to Joy News’ Anna Adyapong.
“The youth started throwing stones at the police and they smashed the windscreen and every glass on the DCE’s car because the DCE had come in to intervene.
“And then the police car that was parked there too had its windscreen smashed. There was a car belonging to the Information Service, that also had its share and all other cars around also had its windscreen smashed,” he narrated.
He said the youth left behind a leaky roof which has now became a headache for the police.
“Our roofing, yesterday in the evening, it started raining and because of the stones the roofing was all leaking,” he noted.
He said the police had been notified that one of the attackers had been hit by a stray bullet but have not been able to trace him.
