Four persons have been arrested by the police in Walewale in the North East Region for allegedly breaking into the private residence of the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, last weekend.
The suspects also allegedly burgled other houses in the area.
The Vice-President was not in the house during the burglary and what was stolen is also not known.
“According to a resident, the thieves broke part of the wall around the Vice-President’s house before entering to take away some items,” reports Daily Graphic, a state-owned newspaper.
They then went ahead and attacked other houses.
A victim of the burglary, Kombat Joe, a dealer in mattresses, said the thieves made away with his personal belongings.
He said the situation had raised security concerns in the municipality and the region as a whole.
Although the North East Regional Police Command was tight-lipped on the burglary, a police source confirmed that the police in Walewale had arrested four people in connection with the case.
The source could, however, not disclose their identities.
The municipality, in recent times, has recorded a number of armed robbery cases.
MCE dismissal
Meanwhile, the Daily Graphic has gathered that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Mamprusi in the North East Region, Mr Abu Mohammed, has been relieved of his post by the President.
He has been directed to vacate post immediately and hand over to the North East Regional Minister, Mr Solomon Boar.
It is not clear what accounted for his dismissal.
Mr Mohammed was overwhelmingly endorsed by members of the assembly after the President's first nominee, Mr Saaka Sayuti, failed two consecutive times to attract the required votes for confirmation.
