Frank Akuffo has been crowned the overall winner of the 2019 Cowbell Cycling Homowo challenge.
The 22-year old cyclist finished 3rd in the third and final stage of the race in Teshi on Saturday but his overall score during the 3-stage competition was enough to win him the title.
Prior to the final race, Akuffo placed 1st in the opener at Osu before coming 10th at Prampram a week after.
In the end, the Osu based cyclist earned a total of 58 points from the three competitive stages to beat the likes of Victor Cudjoe (55 points) and Lawrence Adjei (44 points) into second and third place respectively.
The 2017 Ghana Cycling Tour winner took home a glittering trophy plus GHC 5,000 cedis cash prize whiles the second and third-placed winner’s bagged GHC 3,000 and GHC 2,000 cedis as cash prize respectively as well as medals and souvenirs from Cowbell.
An elated Akuffo expressed heartfelt gratitude to his teammates who ensured that he excelled throughout the competition and also threw a challenge to other African contenders who would battle him for the Tour of Ghana next year.
“Prampram was the toughest for me but I am glad I won this. All this depends on your teammates, you have to fall in love with them and what you are doing. I am ready for the national cycling tour. There is no sleep after this win, that is why we always train to be the best in cycling,” Akuffo said whiles beaming in smiles.
Managing Director of Promasidor Ghana Limited, Mr Festus Tetteh revealed that the company is committed to communal sporting activities and also assured that plans were far advanced to reviving the National Cowbell Tour.
He said, “Consumers should continue to support our brand and we are not going to relent on giving back to them through sporting activities. Cycling challenge will remain but watch this space we will bring back the National Tour of Ghana.”
