Police at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region have arrested three persons, including a woman for allegedly defrauding some unsuspecting residents at Tuobodom, near Techiman of unspecified amount upon the pretext of recruiting them to work on an HIV/AIDS project.
The middle-aged suspects, Ampaabeny Kyeremeh, Samuel Gyeni Fofie and Sussana Afful, were alleged to have told the unsuspecting victims that they were owners of a UK-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) who were looking for some youths to work for them on the project.
The Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Osei Ampofo Duku-Kaakyire, who briefed The Mirror at Techiman on Monday, indicated that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off that they were collecting various sums of money from some innocent residents of the Tuobodom area.
C/Supt Duku-Kaakyire who is in charge of the Wenchi Division Police Command said based on the information, two policemen were despatched from Techiman to Tuobodom where they managed to arrest the three suspects, and that when they were searched, GH¢475 (¢4,750,000) was retrieved from them.
The police officer indicated that the suspects had been granted police enquiry bail pending further investigations.
