State Attorneys have preferred fresh charges against ex-National Investment Bank (NIB) boss Mr. Daniel Charles Gyimah.
Gyimah was hauled before a Circuit Court six months ago over charges of causing financial loss to the state, for allegedly guaranteeing 30 promissory notes worth $60 million to a local commodity buyer Eland International, without seeking approval from the bank’s board.
Joy News’ Bernard Nasara Saibu was at the Circuit Court on Friday and reported that an official from the state prosecution said she had been instructed to transfer the case to the High Court, a request granted by Justice E Daketse.
It was at the High Court that the new charges of conspiracy to commit crime, attempted fraud, attempting to defraud the international banking community and forgery were preferred to replace earlier charges of attempting to commit crime and forgery.
Lead counsel for the defence, Col Rtd Alex Johnson accused prosecution of fishing for new charges and demanded they be allowed to study them thoroughly.
Court adjourned the case to the 17th of September, 2009, imposing a GH¢500,000.00 bail bond on the ex- NIB boss.
Lawyers are still trying to secure bail for their client
