The Elephants of Ivory Coast play Colombia in Group C of the ongoing World Cup in Brazil. The Africans need their second win in the tournament to book a place in the one-sixteenth stage having already beaten Japan  2-1 in the group's opener.

A well balanced game so far with both countries creating their fair share of chances and squandering them with ease.

But Colombia have the best chance of the afternoon and in what may well contend for the best miss of the tournament, Columbia's  striker misses the most glorious opportunity when he criminally shot wide from the six yard box.

He had only the goal keeper to beat and had all the time in the world to control and bury the ball but somehow the striker went for a one-touch strike and wasted the ball.

The Ivorians would be lucky to keep a clean sheet at the Columbian striker Quadrani struck it hard in 18 yard box. A finger-tip save by the Ivorian keeper flipped the ball which the cross bar for a corner kick.

The Colombians make ammends in the 63rd minute thanks to a stupendous header from a corner.

Quintero has deepened the woes of the Africans with a cool finish in the 69th minute.

And Gervinho reduces the tally with a great effort from close range in the 72nd minute. He teasingly outwitted his marker before striking low and hard to beat the Colombian goal keeper.

Substitute Solomon Kalou had the opportunity to level the score but his final strike from a perfect Gervinho pass was too feeble.

The Ivorians are now asking all the questions of the Colombian defence who have so far remained resolute.

2-1 it ended in favour of Colombia who have booked a place in the next stage of the competition. Ivory Coast would have to wait for their final game against Greece before they can be certain of their qualification.
