Hundreds of passengers were stranded on the Kasoa-Winneba highway in the Gomoa District of the Central Region after a fuel tanker exploded at Potsin early on Monday.
The blast occurred around 5 a.m., leaving travellers from Accra to Winneba and beyond stranded for hours.

Frustrated passengers sat by the roadside or walked helplessly as they waited for the situation to be brought under control.
The accident occurred when the driver, attempting to park on a section of the road under construction, lost control and overturned, triggering the explosion.

Traffic was eventually managed by the MTTD Central and Eastern Command, led by Superintendent Hannah Adjei and her team, who provided alternative routes to ease congestion.

The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Irene Oppong, was also present at the scene.
Some stranded passengers told MyJoyOnline that ongoing construction works on the Kasoa-Winneba road worsened the situation.

A combined team from the Winneba and Kasoa fire stations worked to contain the flames, but not before a second explosion occurred while they attempted to cool the burnt tanker.
The explosion destroyed nearby structures, including a traditional restaurant, although no casualties were reported.

One firefighter sustained injuries during the second explosion and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Residents, including Madam Dzifa, a mother of two, were forced to flee their homes as the fire spread.
Nana Yaw Anim, a resident of Potsin who assisted in fighting the fire, has appealed for the establishment of a local fire station to support the Ghana National Fire Service.
