Ghana’s new ambassador to the Czech Republic, Victor Smith has called on the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Tawiah III to render an unqualified apology to President Mills for the ruthless manner in which he addressed him in his recent interview with the media. The Ga Mantse, in an interview with Peace FM alleged that President Mills is allowing himself to be ill-advised by “standard seven boys” to shun Ga chiefs and warned the President not to allow himself to be fooled into thinking that the people of Ga could be taken for granted by his administration. Speaking to Citi FM Wednesday, March 3, Victor Smith said the Ga Mantse being a chief himself should have exercised restraint in addressing the Chief Executive of Ghana. “I think the language, in which he spoke on the issues he raised, directing them at the president was inappropriate. I think it was more confrontational than anything and I think as a chief I would not have expected that he would do a thing like this to the ‘big chief’ of our country. If you went to his palace and did not conduct yourself properly, you’d be in contempt of his throne...I think he owes the president an apology,” he said. The Ga Mantse is peeved that the Atta Mills led government has incessantly sidelined him and failed to invite him for state functions but Government insists that it cannot recognize Nii Tackie Tawiah until he is duly gazetted and recognised by the National House of Chiefs. Victor Smith shares government’s position and says the Ga Mantse should immediately show remorse for insulting President Mills’ intelligence and thereafter ensure that all the legal issues surrounding his chieftaincy are cleared before he demands the attention of government. “He owes the President an apology...I have been told by the Minister and the President of the National House of Chiefs, Professor Nabilla, that he cannot hold himself out properly as the Ga Mantse until he is gazetted. “So if he is now trying to take issues with our President in the public domain the way he did and making negative references to the president...if you say to somebody in that high office that “I am not a fool”, you have insulted the person’s intelligence. So I think he should make an apology very quickly and we should have these matters looked into and resolved,” he opined. Source: Citifmonline
