The Ga South Municipal Assembly is set to roll out an action plan to give a befitting facelift to Ngleshie Amanfrom and its surrounding communities.

These communities lack most basic social amenities pipe borne water, market, toilet facilities, and extremely poor access roads among others. Residents have endured these unbearable conditions for years as politicians keep paying lip service to their needs.

As a result, most property owners are refusing to pay property tax to the assembly.

In view of this, the Municipal Chief Executive Jerry Nii Acquaye Thompson together with the assembly man for Ngleshie Amanfrom Zacharia Ali recently embarked on a tour of the communities to acquaint themselves with the situation on the ground to enable them plan appropriately.

The move which is geared towards transformation of these communities into modern residential area is expected to attract investors to establish business and create jobs for youth in the municipality.

"Property owners who have left the community because of this problem should come and help me to develop the community into a Paradise because modern residential area like East Legon was done by people, '' the Ga South MCE remarked.

The first phase, Nii Acquaye Thompson said, will be the construction of the main Amanfrom Top Town road which links Kasoa to Pokuasi in the Amasaman District.

The construction of the road network will come as big relief to residents who always trek miles on foot home when the rains set in: irrespective how much one is ready to offer, no commercial driver would risk plying these roads once it rains due to their poor nature.

The situation is too critical that it is impeding the effort of municipal police command to curb armed robbery activities in the community.

Worse still, well-to-do residents of Amanfrom Top Town with investment capabilities are leaving the area en masse due to the conditions there.

Hitherto, some city dwellers who took advantage of the low rent advance and relocated to the community while working in Accra have regretted their decision and are contemplating leaving the area.

I bumped into the MCE last week busily inspecting unauthorized buildings and tracing blocked water ways by some residents under a scorching sun. Nii Acquaye Thompson was shocked to discover how people under his jurisdiction had directed their waterways onto the streets.

The tour, which was a surprise to residents, took the MCE to Peace Town, American Farms and Apedwa.

In an interview with Myjoyonline.com, the Mr. Jerry Acquaye Thompson said the assembly has written a letter to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to request for the release of road construction equipment to enable them start work on the road project.

He mentioned that bad roads are a major challenge facing the assembly. The assembly would therefore prioritize construction of roads and gutters in the municipality, he adds.

He noted that developing the community into a first class residential area has been on the assembly’s plan but it has been delayed due to financial setback.

Mr. Acquaye Thompson was not happy about the way some residents have built their house in water ways thus causing flooding in some areas in the assembly.

He said houses ought to be demolished to make way for the construction of the road network so the assembly will hold meetings with residents to find the best way to deal with the situation.

He hinted that the assembly appreciates persons operating small scale businesses in the area and it will consider some incentive packages for those opening new businesses to support them.

On the issue of releasing equipment to the assembly to execute its plans, Deputy Minister of Local Government Nii Lantey Vanderpuye said the ministry has imported the equipment to be given to the district assemblies to help them improve the road network in their localities.

He however could not tell exactly when distribution of these equipment will begin but was certain they would be released to them as soon as everything is set.

He appealed to residents in those areas to partner the assembly to develop their communities.
